Here are my little Ninten and Ana busts from that ask last night now on their own for reblogging and what have you.
Okay! Finally added a Kirby banner to the rotation on my blog! Not really sure why I went with video game parodies when the blog is called “Niko Is Cartoons,” but…whatever.
It’s been feeling like summer the past few days so I did a quick summer-related drawing. Uh…sort of. There was probably a better theme I could have picked, I don’t know why watermelon was the first thing to come to mind.
Added one more banner to the rotation at the top of my blog, obligatory Earthbound-based one. I had wanted to do it for a while but didn’t have fonts for either the Mother or Earthbound logos, but then I remembered I had the one for Lumine Hall which I thought would actually be more interesting.
I’m hoping to change up the theme to my blog entirely because it’s always seemed to load pretty slowly, but I’m kind of afraid to because I don’t want to mess anything up. I need to do my main website even more though…
There’s something about Porky that’s very unsettling to me. Giygas is creepy and all, but you fight him and you’re done. Porky…lingers. And I’ll tell you why it bothers me.
Everyone had that stupid neighbor kid who lived down the street who you didn’t like but you played with him anyway, either because your mom made you or because he was the only one around. He was a brat. He cheated at hide-and-seek, he told blatant lies, he erased all your files when you lent him a video game, and he always got his way.
Porky is the embodiment of that kid…plus limitless power. I don’t know about you guys, but for some reason, the thought of that is horrifying to me. I mean, I like Porky as a character. But man, when I think about his actual story, how he’s this little parasite of a kid who is literally invincible, it’s downright scary. And while I was looking for references of him for this drawing, I saw a quote from Itoi himself along the lines of Porky still being around millions of years from now even after the sun dies out and the world ends. That’s a terrifying thought.
Since it’s March 1st, I feel obligated to mention that I began my old series Geoweasel as a comic on this day back in 2002. In addition, the first official episode of the animated series (after the pilot) premiered on March 1, 2005, and there was one more cartoon celebrating that anniversary a year later. I can’t really say that I’ve been doing the series for 11 years because I haven’t worked on it for quite some time as I’ve moved on to other projects, but it certainly has…existed for 11 years.
Another doodle based on a dream, or specifically a girl in the dream who stuck out in my mind. I tried to draw her as well and as accurately as I could remember (which is not easy given my limited abilities) and not take any creative liberties, which was hard because I kept forgetting I wasn’t designing a character. Aside from the cartoon-style hat with ears that she was wearing, I’m going to go out on a limb and say the outfit she had on was heavily influenced by the stuff I see on Tumblr. Pastel colors, a sweater, stockings with prints on them, and she had little crescent moon buttons going up the sweater, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.
As far as the actual dream went, I was at some sort of place resembling an amusement park/water park on an island and met the above girl who was there with her family. We hung out for a while, but after venturing around, we got pretty lost. I started looking around for a way back or something familiar when I saw her dad, but when I went to tell her, she was walking off trying to find a way back on her own. I started chasing after her as she went into a building, but it was crowded and people kept getting in my way. I was running and calling for her, but she didn’t hear, and eventually ended up chasing her into a train terminal, in which she got on a train. I ran up to it and just as I got to the door, it slammed shut and the train started moving. I looked up and saw the girl through one of the windows and waved my arms. She finally noticed me, and it looked like she was trying to get the conductor’s attention to stop the train, but it picked up speed, went through this set of futuristic doors, and it was gone. So I just slowly started walking back, and I never saw her again.
The mind is weird, man.
Last night I dreamed I drew a bunch of different Mr. Saturns, so I figured I’d actually try and draw a few of the ones I remembered. I’m literally making my dreams come true!
Not that I’ve never drawn this character before, but suddenly today he became Pizza Bot, so I figured I should do a new color doodle of him. I’m not really even sure what direction I’m going with this yet, but I was looking for an idea for a new series I could do independently (Melody & Liz is too in depth for me to handle on my own), so depending on what I come up with, it could have something to do with this.
If you follow me directly on Tumblr, then you may not go on my actual blog that often and probably haven’t noticed that the top banner is actually one of 6 banners chosen at random each time. I drew them all up sometime in spring of 2012 and for some reason based them all on video games despite the blog being named “Niko Is Cartoons.” Anyway, I kind of like them and thought I should add them to my illustration section in case I ever revamp the blog and get rid of these.
