This is a really interesting article, especially since I remember reading for years that Miyamoto’s favorite Mario game was Super Mario World. I guess he recently changed his mind because apparently Super Mario Bros. 2 is his favorite. And not even the original Japanese SMB2 that we know as The Lost Levels, but rather the US SMB2. A very strange choice since, even though he worked on it, it wasn’t originally a Mario game and therefore retained very few elements of other Mario games. The article also explains why we haven’t seen a Mario game like this one since then. Pretty intriguing.
